Nap (Qailoolah)

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Prophet (ﷺ) would take a nap at midday, so that this siesta would give him strength to pray qiyaam al-layl (voluntary prayers at night). He (ﷺ)  would say: “Take a nap at midday, for the Shaytaan does not take a nap at midday.” Narrated by at-Tabaraani in al-Awsat, 28; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah, 1647.

Like sleeping at night regenerates, activates and maintains the cells of the body and brain, then napping also contributes to resting the brain, physical relaxation, removing muscle spasms, and enhancing the ability of perception and receiving.

Scientists have confirmed that short naps in the middle of the day, for half an hour, cancel the effect of fatigue and restore stability, vitality and activity to the mind and body. Modern scientific research has also confirmed that taking a short nap during work renews the mental and physical energies of workers, increases their productivity and their ability to better withstand working conditions. Experts also confirm that napping is the most important anti-stress and anxiety by reducing the level of cortisone, which is responsible for stress.

The benefits of a nap are not limited to those short-term benefits of moderating mood and others, but also benefit in the long term, as it reduces the chances of heart attacks and strokes and the cause that leads to them, which is stress..

One of the results of studies showed this difference by about 30% as a result that napping helps On the regularity of the pulse and respiratory rates that have a direct and indirect effect on the heart. The nap is also very useful for children, during which the body secretes growth hormones, and stimulates physical alertness and psychological balance.

Nap in Quran

 أَوْ هُمْ قَائِلُونَ

ALLAH's punishment came upon them while they were taking midday rest (7:4)

Nap in Sunnah

1. Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to the house of Fatima but did not find `Ali in the house. So he asked "Where is your cousin?" She replied, "There was something (a quarrel) between me and him whereupon he got angry with me and went out without having a midday nap in my house." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked a person to look for him. That person came, and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! He (Ali) is sleeping in the mosque." So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went there and found him lying. His upper body cover had fallen off to one side of his body, and so he was covered with dust. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) started cleaning the dust from him, saying, "Get up, O Abu Turab! Get up, Abu Turab!" ( Sahih al-Bukhari 6280,Sahih Muslim 2409)

2. Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:
We used to be happy on Fridays because of the dish an old lady prepared , and we never used to take our meals or have a mid-day nap except after the Friday prayer. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5403)

3. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to visit Umm Haram bint Milhan, who would offer him meals. Umm Haram was the wife of Ubada bin As-Samit.  Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would take a mid-day map in her home. (Sahih al-Bukhari 2788, Sahih Muslim 1912a)

Nap after Fajr

For a person who can't sleep at any other time of the day, it is nothing wrong in sleeping after Fajr to gain strength to do his work better.

Ibn Abi Shaybah reported in his Musannaf (5/223, no. 25454) from the hadeeth of Abu Yazeed al-Madeeni who said: “Umar came to Suhayb one morning and found him sleeping, so he sat down until he woke up. Suhayb said: ‘The Ameer al-Mu’mineen is sitting in his place and Suhayb is sleeping!’ ‘Umar said to him: ‘I did not like to disturb your sleep that could be beneficial for you.’”

If he can find time to take a nap later in the day, then it would be the best to avoid sleeping after Fajr.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, bless my nation early in the morning of Thursday.' "

Prophet (ﷺ) would dispatch a military expedition or an army, he would send them in the first part of the day."

And Sakhr, a man who was a merchant, used to send his goods for trade during the beginning of the day, so he became rich, and his wealth increased.
