BismillaHirrahmanirraheem
These days there are too many hair splitting discussions for too small things.. wearing a cap, moving fingers, standing feet to feet in prayer, what not. But at the same time there are very big things that is ignored though it is noticed..
Here is a nice incident shared by Sheik Imtiyaz Damiel on his facebook page:
Knowing When and What to Speak Against is a Discipline in Itself!
Imām Ash-Shāfi`ī reports that Muḥammad b. `Ajlān used to enjoin virtue and forbid vice. One day the governor of Madīnah gave a lengthy sermon. He then descended the pulpit and led the ṣalāh (prayer). After the ṣalāh, Ibn `Ajlān started shouting: "Hey, fear God! You lengthen your sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?!"
Ibn `Ajlān was arrested for his outburst. Ibn Abī Dhi'b (d. 159 AH), a famous scholar and jurist of Madīnah, was informed of the incident, and therefore went to see the Governor. He asked: "Why have you arrested Ibn `Ajlān? The Governor replied: "Is it not enough, that he commands and reprimands us, yelling on the top of the head's of people, making us appear weak?!" Ibn Abī Dhi'b replied: "Ibn `Ajlān is a fool. The fool sees you eat ḥarām, wear ḥarām, and he leaves admonishing you on that, and says, don't lengthen your sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah?!" [Ādāb Ash-Shāfi'ī wa Manāqibahu]
Here is a Beautiful Hadith on this subject:
Sahih Muslim #19 (http://authentichadithfoundation.org/sahih-muslim-19/)
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that Mu’adh said: “The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم sent me and said: ‘You are going to some of the People of the Book.
Call them to bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah.
If they accept that, then teach them that Allah has enjoined on them five prayers to be offered each day and night.
If they accept that, then teach them that Allah has enjoined on them charity (Zakat) to be taken from their rich and given to their poor.
If they accept that, then beware (of taking) the best of their wealth, and
protect yourself from the supplication of the one who has been wronged, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.”
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sent Mu’adh to Yemen and said: “You are going to people…” and he narrated a Hadith similar to that of Waki’ [previous paragrah].
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that when the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم sent Mu’adh to Yemen, he said: “You are going to some of the people of the Book, so let the first thing to which you call them be the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime (alone). If they acknowledge Allah (as One), then tell them that Allah has enjoined upon them five prayers to be offered every day and night. If they do that, then tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat to be taken from their wealth and given to their poor. If they accept that, then take it from them, but beware of (taking) the best of their wealth.”
