Salaam alaykum OR as-salaam alaykum?

Salaam alaykum OR as-salaam alaykum?

Both ways are correct. In fact in theQur'aan, Allah prefers salaam alaykum over as-salaam alaykum!!! Of the 24 places where the phrase is used, only in two places was as-salaam used while in 22 places salaam was used!!! For example, the very first usage in Soorah al-An'aam, 6:54, "When those who believe in My signs come to you, say (O Muhammad and your followers) to them, 'Salaamun alaykum' ". And consistently the greetings in Paradise is salaam alaykum in all verses. Furthermore, the greeting to the prophets mentioned in the 37th chapter (as-Saaffaat) in verses 79, 109, 120, 130, & 181 were all salaam and not as-salaam.
