Ayah That Made The Prophet(saaw) Cry

*notes from the lecture of Sh. Tariq Abdurahman Al-hawaas*

The Prophet (saaw) (peace be on him) is reported to have said: "Surely the Quran has been sent down with sorrow. So when you read it, make yourself sorrowful"…and He (saaw) said: "Read the Quran and weep. If you do not weep spontaneously make yourself weep"

Dear brothers and sisters, tears will not take long to run down our cheeks once we reflect and think about what Allah (azza wa jal) is saying. Know may Allah forgive you, that only with an inattentive heart, or a dead heart, will the eyes remain dry.

Allah (swt) says in surat Al-Israa

“They fall down upon their faces, weeping.” (17:109)

Why? because of joy on finding the truth, on realizing His infinite mercy and in surat Al-Maidah He (swt) says"You see their eyes overflow with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth." (5:83)

That was the relationship of our beloved Prophet (saaw) and His companions with the words of Allah. Hudhayfah said: “ I prayed with the Messenger of Allaah peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) one night… he was reciting at length. If he recited an aayah that mentioned tasbeeh, he would say Subhaan Allaah; if it mentioned a question, he would ask a question; if it mentioned seeking refuge with Allaah, he would seek refuge with Allaah.” When His blessed Companions (May Allah be pleased with them all) heard Allah (swt) call … “Oh you who believe..” they didn’t not think that Allah was addressing some distant Muslims somewhere…they paid attention and responded “we hear and we obey”…

Dear brothers and sisters let us look at some of the ayat which made Him (saws) cry…

1. "Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire." [Al-Imran 2:191]

‘Ataa’ said: “ ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr and I entered upon ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) and Ibn ‘Umayr said to her, ‘Tell us of the most amazing thing you saw on the part of the Messenger of Allaah (saaw) . She wept and said, ‘He got up one night and said, “O ‘Aa’ishah, leave me to worship my Lord.” I said, “By Allaah, I love to be close to you, and I love what makes you happy.” So he got up and purified himself, then he stood and prayed. He kept weeping until his lap got wet, then he wept and kept weeping until the floor got wet. Bilaal came to tell him that it was time to pray, and when he saw him weeping, he said, “O Messenger of Allaah (saaw), you are weeping when Allaah has forgiven you all your past and future sins?” He said, “Should I not be a grateful slave? Tonight some aayaat have been revealed to me; woe to the one who recites them and does not think about what is in them (interpretation of the meaning): ‘Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth…”

May Allah have mercy upon you, Know that reflecting is a command of Allah, and is a great Ibaadah, that will inshAllah increase the taqwaa of Allah in our hearts…Allah(swt) says in surat Al-ghashiya verse 17-20 “Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? And at the heaven, how it is raised? And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? And at the earth, how it is spread out?”

2. “But how ( will it be with them ) when we bring of every people a witness , and We bring thee ( O Muhammad ) a witness against these?”[Al-Nisaa 4:41]

Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (saaw) said to me, "Recite the Qur'an to me.'' I said: "O Messenger of Allah (saaw)! Shall I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?'' He (saaw) said, "I like to hear it from others.'' Then I began to recite Surat An-Nisa'. When I reached the Ayah: `How will it be when We shall bring a witness from every people and bring you as a witness against them?' (Having heard it) he said, "Enough! Enough!'' When I looked at him, I found his eyes were overflowing with tears. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

3.“You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily You, only You are the Almighty, the All Wise.”

[Al-Maidah 5:118]

`Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`as (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (saaw) recited the Words of Allah, the Exalted, and the Glorious, about Ibrahim (PBUH) who said: "O my Rubb! They have led astray many among mankind. But whosoever follows me, he verily, is of me". (14:36) and those of `Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) who said: "If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily, You, only You, are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise". (5:118). Then he (saaw) raised up his hands and said, "O Allah! My Ummah, my Ummah,'' and wept; Allah, the Exalted, said: "O Jibril (Gabriel)! Go to Muhammad (saaw) and ask him:`What makes you weep?" So Jibril came to him and asked him (the reason of his weeping) and the Messenger of Allah (saaw) informed him what he had said (though Allah knew it well). Upon this Allah said: "Jibril, go to Muhammad (saaw) and say: `Verily, We will please you with regard to your Ummah and will never displease you".

[Muslim].

SubhanAllah… He (saaw) spent every moment worried bout this ummah… It is in the Sunan of Al-Nasai, that He (saaw) spent an entire night reciting this ayah and weeping, out of fear for this ummah… subhanAllah… and Today stray from his sunnah, we are ashamed to follow his commands (saaw)… SubhanAllah on his death bed He (saaw) kept asking Aisha “did the people pray?” … why? Because salah is the first act we will be asked about ….

What shall we say to him (saaw) when we meet him? ….The prophet (saaw) says: "I will be there at the Basin before you. And men known to me shall come forth, to whom I shall be denied access. I call out to them, "My Companions!" They will answer, `Little do you know what they have concocted after you!' I reply, "Away with all those who changed after me!"

Oh Allah, do not make us of those turned away from, Oh Allah quench our thirst from his blessed Basin… Ameen

4. “It is not for a Prophet that he should have prisoners of war (and free them with ransom) until he had made a great slaughter (among his enemies) in the land. You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allah desires (for you) the Hereafter. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. “ [Al-Anfal 8:67]

After the trimph of Badr the Rasoul (saaw) took the advice of Abu Bakr (ra) to ransom the prisoners, Then the next day Umar (ra) found the Messenger of Allah (saaw) and Abu Bakr sittin in the shade of a tree crying, so he said: “what makes you cry? If it is worth crying over I shall cry with you, and if not I shall make myself cry!”…So the Rasoul (saaw) recited to him the ayah, and said I saw the punishment of Allah as close as that tree (pointed to a nearby tree)…

SubhanAllah if the Prophet Allah (saaw) was fearful of the punishment of Allah, who are we to feel secure and safe...

Allah (swt) said: " Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allah? But none can feel secure against the Plan of Allah except those who are lost" (7:99)

5. And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred.

When This Ayah was revealed to Him (saaw) he cried, and gathered his tribe …called out “oh sons of Abdu Manaf Save yourselves from the hell fire, Oh sons of Abdul mutalib save yourselves from the fire, oh Fatimah daughter of Muhammad save yourself from the fire”…

6.“Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur’an)? And laugh at it and weep not” [Al-Najm 59]

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (saaw) said, "One who weeps out of fear of Allah, will not enter the Hell till milk returns back in the udder; and the dust raised on account of fighting in the path of Allah and the smoke of Hell will never exist together".

Finally, May Allah have mercy upon you… CRY… follow in the footsteps of your beloved and cry... Make yourself cry...

May Allah have mercy upon you, remember the hadith of Abu Juhayfa, Radhi Allahu 'Anhu, where he says: 'The people said: "Yaa Rasulallah, (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam)! we see the signs of old age beginning to show on you?" Rasulullah(Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) replied: "Surah Hud and similar surahs have made me old." In another narration he (saaw) specified surat hud, Al-waaqiah, Mursalat, Amma, and Qariah.

Rememeber that abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah (saaw) said, "No man, who wept out of fear of Allah, will enter the Fire until the milk returns to the breast. Dust raised in the way of Allah and the smoke of Jahannam will never be joined together."

Forgiveness of ALLAH

Translation of Chapter 3: verse 135 (Soorah Aal-'Imraan - (The Family of 'Imraan) )
And those who, when they have committed Fâhishah (great sins) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allâh and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allâh – and do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know.

Believe in One God

"So next time someone tells me they believe in God, I’ll say “Oh which one? Zeus? Hades? Jupiter? Mars? Odin? Thor? Krishna? Vishnu? Ra?…” If they say “Just God. I only believe in the one God,” I’ll point out that they are nearly as atheistic as me. I don’t believe in 2,870 gods, and they don’t believe in 2,869." Ricky Gervais

Here is what the Original Holy scriptures say about God, The rest are all fabricated

"Say: He is Allah, The One and Only." Al-Qur'an 112:1)- Islam
"He is One only without a second." (Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1) - Hinduism
"Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord." (The Bible, Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4) - Christianity/Judaism
"There exists but one God, who is called the The True, The Creator.... (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Vol1, Japuji verse:1) - Sikhism
He is One, He is without an orgin or end. He has no father or mother, wife or son. (Dasatir, Ahura Mazda) - Zoroastrians (Parsis)

I prayed Sunnah after Fajr

Salam all,
Today I was feeling little bit sick while getting up for the Fajr prayer and once I reached the Mosque, I found that the Iqama was being pronounced. As I went there for praying Fard, and Imam had started I joined the prayer and completed it.
After completion, I remembered the Hadiz, that the Sunnah of Fajr is more important than the whole world and did the missed Fajr Sunnah. While stepping out of the Mosque , a old man walked to me and said, there is no Sunnah after Fajr and whatever I did was wrong. I heard some brothers saying that, if one can catch the Fajr, then he should pray the sunnah and join the Fajr. I was searching for valid Hadiz, Fatwa on this topic.

Fatwa:1
Pray sunnah even though Imam has started prayer.
This is the opinion of Hanafi School of thought and I have seen lot of Hanafis doing this. I found a fatwa from Deo Band Madarasa from India which acts purely on Hanafi school of though. I found a fatwa regarding this
http://darulifta-deoband.org/viewfatwa.jsp?ID=23873
They did not mention any supporting Hadiz, than quoting that there are numerous Hadiz.
I searched for related Hadiz and couldn't find any..

Fatwa 2:
Pray Sunnah after Fard
http://www.alifta.net/Fatawa/FatawaChapters.aspx?View=Page&BookID=7&PageID=2402&back=true

http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=showfatwa&Option=FatwaId&Id=85880
I saw a fatwa from islam web on the topic with quoting Hadiz from Timrmidhi. Since I have downloaded version of Tirmizi , I was able to grab the Hadiz

Here are the Hadiz on it:-

When the congregation begins, there is no Salah but the Fard

Abu Hurayrah reported Allah’s Messenger (SAW) as saying, “When the salah (in congregation) stands up, there is no salah except the fard.” [Jami' Tirmidhi: 421 ,Ahmed 8387, Muslim 710, Abu Dawud 1266, Nisai 861, lbn e Majah 1151]

If one misses the sunnah of fajr, he may offer them after fajr

Muhammad ibn Ibrahim reported from his grandfather, Qays that as Allah’s Meessenger (SAW) came out, the iqamah of the (fajr) salah was called. So, he offered the prayer with him. Then, the Prophet (SAW) turned back and saw him offer salah. He said, O Qays! Wait! will you pray two salah together? He said, “O Messenger of Allah!

I had not offered the two rakaat (sunnah) of fajr.’ The Prophet (SAW) said, ‘Then there is no harm.” [Jami' Tirmidhi:422, Ahmed : 23821]

About redeeming them after sunrise

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reproted that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “He who has not offered the two raka’at of fajr may offer them after sunrise.” [Jami' Tirmidhi: 423]

Also I was able to Find Hadiz on Prophet Praying the 2 Rakath of Dhuhr Prayer after the Asar Prayer

Narrated Kuraib: I was sent to Aisha by Ibn Abbas, Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and 'Abdur-Rahman bin Azhar . They told me to greet her on their behalf and to ask her about the offering of the two Rakat after the 'Asr prayer and to say to her, "We were informed that you offer those two Rakat and we were told that the Prophet had forbidden offering them."

Ibn Abbas said, "I along with 'Umar bin Al-Khattab used to beat the people whenever they offered them." I went to Aisha and told her that message. 'Aisha said, "Go and ask Um Salama about them." So I returned and informed them about her statement. They then told me to go to Um Salama with the same question with which t sent me to 'Aisha. Um Salama replied, "I heard the Prophet forbidding them. Later I saw him offering them immediately after he prayed the 'Asr prayer. He then entered my house at a time when some of the Ansari women from the tribe of Bani Haram were sitting with me, so I sent my slave girl to him having said to her, 'Stand beside him and tell him that Um Salama says to you, "O Allah's Apostle! I have heard you forbidding the offering of these (two Rakat after the 'Asr prayer) but I have seen you offering them." If he waves his hand then wait for him.' The slave girl did that. The Prophet beckoned her with his hand and she waited for him. When he had finished the prayer he said, "O daughter of Bani Umaiya! You have asked me about the two Rakat after the 'Asr prayer. The people of the tribe of 'Abdul-Qais came to me and made me busy and I could not offer the two Rakat after the Zuhr prayer. These (two Rakat that I have just prayed) are for those (missed) ones. [Bukhari :: Hadith 325, Muslim :: Hadith 1815]

Conclusion:

To make the sunnah after Fajr is a provision while doing it on regular basis is a Bid'ah.
The Sunnah is to always pray it before Fajr and no doubt about it. But with a very valid reason, it is okay to pray after sunrise after Fajr

Quran- fully explained by Prophet

Quran is fully explained by Prophet (SAW)
[16:44]
With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down to you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam])
the Dhikr [reminder and the advice (i.e. the Qur'ân)],
that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
And We have also revealed the Dhikr to you), meaning the Qur'an,
﴿لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ﴾
(so that you may clearly explain to men what was revealed to them,) meaning, sent down from their Lord, because you know the meaning of what Allah has revealed to you, and because of your understanding and adherence to it, and because We know that you are the best of creation and the leader of the Children of Adam. So that you may explain in detail what has been mentioned in brief, and explain what is not clear.

﴿وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ﴾

(so that perhaps they may reflect.) meaning, they should examine themselves and be guided by it, so that they may attain the victory of salvation in this world and the next.

Love of ALLAH

[019:096] Verily, those who believe [in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam])] and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Gracious (Allâh) will bestow love for them (in the hearts of the believers).
Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllâhu 'anhu]: The Prophet [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "If Allâh loves a person, He calls Jibrâîl (Gabriel) saying: Allâh loves so-and-so; O Jibrâîl (Gabriel) love him.' Jibrâîl (Gabriel) would love him, and then Jibrâîl (Gabriel) would make an announcement among the residents of the heavens, 'Allâh loves so-and-so, therefore, you should love him also.' So, all the residents of the heavens would love him and then he is granted the pleasure of the people of the earth."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 8/6040 (O.P.66)]
And Allâh loves As-Sâbirûn (the patient).[3:146]
Truly, Allâh loves Al-Muhsinûn (the good-doers).[2.195]
verily, Allâh loves Al-Muhsinûn (the gooddoers).[3:134]
And Allâh loves the good-doers. [5:93]
Truly, Allâh loves those who turn to Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves [2.222]
And Allâh loves those who make themselves clean and pure [9:108]
verily Allâh loves those who are Al-Muttaqûn [3:76]
Surely, Allâh loves Al-Muttaqûn [9:4]
Verily, Allâh loves Al-Muttaqûn [9:7]
certainly, Allâh loves those who put their trust (in Him).[3:159]
Verily, Allâh loves Al-Muhsinûn [5:13]
Verily, Allâh loves those who act justly.[5:42]
Verily, Allâh loves those who are the equitable.[49:109]
Verily, Allâh loves those who deal with equity.[60:8]
Verily, Allâh loves those who fight in His Cause in rows (ranks) as if they were a solid structure. [61:4]
